So.

Come hither unruly harassed creature
Climb up with your humanity higher
And pray so, staring into that future
Praying harder; sing in lovely minor
So sorrowful—melodious your tune
So uplifting—thoughts of harmony strewn.

Is that so you say?
I said so—so, it’s that which may be said.
O no—you do not know that so is dead?
So withered, dying held in yore’s embrace
Timeless thoughtless shade of Persephone’s
House. The songless, soulless resting place
Praying lament; cry the cacophonies
So sorrowful—pluck a mortuary tune
So uplifting—death will harmony doom.

O please—so, you say?
Child of heaven needless have you grown
In this way. Of living and speaking so,
About the deathless life the word has known
Pray and partake; let go your rolling stone
So contemplate—so mind the ageless moon
So uplifting—so find this simple tune.

Author’s Note:

“What joy to be the invulnerable water
That ran assuredly through the parable
Of Heraclitus, or the intricate fire,
But now, on this long day that doesn’t end,
I feel irrevocable and alone.” —Jorge Luis Borges
